The gemstone Tiger's Eye (also called Tiger Eye) is a stone excavated primarily in Austria, Brazil, India, Mexico, and South Africa. It belongs to the quartz group and is usually black-brown to gold in color with lighter shimmering bands of gold or yellow. The bands are fibrous structures in the rock caused by extreme heat and pressure, which give the stone the appearance of a lion's eye.
Tiger's Eye is not to be confused with Tiger Iron, which is Tiger's Eye mixed with Black Hematite and Red Jasper, which reflect shades of red and blue. It is also not the same as Cat's Eye. Cat's Eye is a term often used for any stone of any color that resembles a cat's eye.
Some believe Tiger's Eye carries supernatural forces that can protect one from the "evil eye", a stare meant to curse an unsuspecting person. Some believe the evil eye can only cast harm upon those who would wish to harm on an innocent. But others say plenty of good, god-loving people have been ill-wished.
